  • Seasonal Naturalist

    Nahant Marsh Education Center is looking for two seasonal naturalists to join our Education Team. This position’s primary responsibilities include delivering environmental education programs in an outdoor setting for K–12 students and the public. The position includes providing friendly visitor engagement through staffing the front desk. 


    LOCATION: Nahant Marsh Education Center, 4220 Wapello Ave, Davenport, IA 52802

    REPORTS TO: Director of Education. On occasion, the person in this position may also be supervised by other permanent staff.

    HOURS OF POSITION: The Seasonal Naturalist will work up to 36 hours per week, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. Occasional evenings and weekends may be required due to programming needs. Maximum of 300 hours per term.

    SALARY: $16–18 per hour

    TERM: This posting is for two seasonal positions to be filled for the May–August 2026 term. 


    GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

    • Deliver educational programs for outdoor summer camps
    • Lead interactive activities for outreach programs at libraries and community events
    • Coordinate with education staff to plan and conduct summer day camps
    • Assist other education staff as needed
    • Staff the visitor desk to provide a welcoming experience for guests, answer phones, process program registrations, and share information about upcoming events
    • Track attendance and visitor data
    • Help maintain the cleanliness, organization, and visual appeal of the education center, classroom spaces, displays, and education supplies

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • High school diploma required; some college preferred
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Canva, and Google Apps
    • One year of experience in education, natural resources, biology, or a related field preferred
    • Valid driver’s license
    • Reliable transportation
    • Enthusiastic, professional, and friendly demeanor
    • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
    • Comfortable working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
    • Enjoys working with children
